Awareness of New Media_13 years & above |
Ever heard about blogs, wikis, RSS, podcasts and vodcasts? You may or may not, but collectively these are known as New Media tools. Did you know that you can use them for your project work? New Media tools are rich sources of information and content as people around the world create and publish content on Web 2.0. This course provides you with an insight into five of the essential tools you might want to consider for your project work. Understand more about the what, why, when, where, and how such tools can jazz up your project. This course also addresses the critical question of how to evaluate information on new media tools.

Cite it Right to Avoid Plagiarism |
Academic integrity is becoming very important today as students use the Internet as their first stop for information and research. Students Google it, then 'copy and paste' not realising that this constitutes plagiarism and could result in them failing.
This is an intervention course that introduces students to the dangers of plagiarism and teaches them ways and techniques to avoid plagiarism such as note-taking, paraphrasing, and citation. Students will learn the two commonly used citation styles, MLA and APA. Hands-on practice activities are provided throughout this course to engage the learner.

The Internet has increasingly become the first stop for students to gather information for their Project Work topics. As such, students are often tempted to ‘copy and paste' information from the web. This constitutes to plagiarism which is an offence. This course will introduce students to the concept of plagiarism and its dangers. Participants will know how to combat plagiarism through effective note-taking and citation techniques. Using accepted conventions such as APA and MLA styles, students will learn how to create a reference list or bibliography with the templates provided.

Media Literacy Programme for Schools
The NLB Academy (NLBA) has been appointed by MOE to conduct the Media Literacy Programme for Primary 4/5 and Secondary 2/3 students.
With a strong background in information literacy and decades in the provision of information resources to all levels of Singaporeans, NLBA is your preferred choice as a training partner in providing media literacy education to your students and teachers.
Media literacy refers to the ability to access, analyse, evaluate and create print as well as non-print media in a variety of forms. The NLBA’s Media Literacy Programme aims to educate and equip students with these effective media literacy skills so as to prepare them to be media literate and media savvy. We believe that students need the ability to critically evaluate powerful images and messages across different media platforms. Hence, the focus of our media literacy programme is on the learning process, imparting values such as social responsibility and ethics, and empowering the students to take a more active role in acquiring the knowledge and skills.

NLBA's Media Literacy Programme is funded by MOE through the Tote Board Funding. Fund application window for this year is 2 Aug to 31 Aug 2010. Schools can apply for the funding by submitting completed Application Form to MOE by 31 Aug 2010.
