The focus of this seminar is on the application and management of metadata in the workplace. Participants will be able to plan the use of metadata for operational needs such as its use in resource discovery and other purposes. Current international standards, emerging practices and a discussion on semantic web will be included.
By the end of the seminar, participants will be able to:
- Identify issues and constraints when planning and implementing metadata
- Highlight successful and unique metadata applications
Trainer’s profile:
Ms Haliza Jailani is Senior Manager, Professional Services, National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore. She has been with the Board since 1988 and has helped set-up 2 public libraries as well as worked as a cataloguer. She obtained her MSc. in Knowledge Organisation & Management at the University of Central England in 2002, focusing on metadata studies.
Upon her return, she served as Head, E-Content Unit and was responsible for the implementation of metadata across NLB particularly its implementation in describing NLB digital objects for resource discovery and in NLB’s knowledge management system, DRMS (Digital Repository Management System). This included the setting up of metadata and taxonomy standards and processes and the development of systems to support metadata management as Head, Metadata Unit.
Up to 2010, she was manager of the Digital Infrastructure unit of the Digital Resources and Services division and helped to deliver various components of NLB’s L2010 Digital Infrastructure as Programme Manager, including a Metadata Management System, NLB SearchPlus, a meta-search info discovery system and a Digital Preservation System.
