Quick snapshot of NLBA courses and programmes since the start of 2010

What a ride it has been for 2010 for the NLB Academy. Since the start of the year, we have been busy running courses for school students and teachers, and this has not abated until today.

The students and teachers picked up skills in a number of courses provided by the NLB Academy (NLBA), ranging from promoting their libraries, to fast internet searching, and also valuable project work skills.

21st Century Literacies: Project Work, Information and Media Literacy

For the “Netgeners”, computers and other technology–enhanced gadgets are their daily essential tools. The level of sophistication in the way they communicate using modern technology is, arguably, enviable. However, to be IT-savvy does not necessarily mean they are smart users of information and technology. The “cut and paste” is fast becoming a habit without guilt among the young people. That leaves us to wonder whether such skill does have its ethical values of originality and sincerity.
Creative Commons for Users

IMAGINE this: you have to create a Powerpoint slideshow for work (or a school project). You download an image from the Internet and use it in your slides. You take weeks to prepare for your work. Your colleagues (or teachers) congratulate you for your efforts. You post your work on the Internet. One day, you receive an email saying that you have infringed on someone’s Copyright.

This is a hypothetical example, yet it could be true. It could happen to you.
